Which President Led Malawi To Independence?
Hastings Kamuzu Banda brought independence to Malawi, and he’s the country’s first president. He was born around 1898 near Kasungu in British Central Africa, now known as Malawi.
Banda had a strong desire for education, which took him to the United States and the United Kingdom, where he studied medicine. He worked as a doctor in London and Ghana.
While living abroad, Banda became interested in politics and opposed colonialism. These experiences inspired him to return to Nyasaland, as Malawi was called at the time, to push for independence from British rule.

The current President of Malawi is Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. He has been in office since June 28, 2020, after winning the presidential election held earlier that year.
