Which LGA Is The Biggest In Bauchi State?
Bauchi is the largest Local Government Area (LGA) in Bauchi State by population, with a population projection of about 1,200,000 in 2025.
It is also the administrative center of Bauchi State and serves as the headquarters of the Bauchi Emirate. Currently, Mahmood Baba Maji is the Bauchi LGA chairman. The city of Bauchi, which is the capital of the state, is located within this LGA.
Bauchi LGA was founded by Yakubu, one of the commanders of Sheik Usman dan Fodio, during his campaigns in the region. Yakubu named the area after a hunter called Baushe, who guided him on where to establish the settlement.

Toro LGA is the largest Local Government Area (LGA) in Bauchi State by land area. It is not only the largest in Bauchi State but also the largest local government in Nigeria and West Africa.
Toro LGA covers a massive area of 6,932 square kilometers (2,589 square miles). According to the 2006 census, its population was 350,404, but recent estimates suggest the population has grown to 700,000 people as of 2025.
The headquarters of Toro LGA is located in the town of Toro, which is an important hub for the area. However, the LGA is divided into three districts: Toro, Jama’a, and Lame.
The region is known for its cultural diversity, with numerous ethnic groups living there, including the Afizere, Anarubunu (Ribina), Duguza, Fulani, and Kaiwari people.
